Sri Lanka hosts International Media Conference by Thava Sajitharan Sri Lanka will host the International Conference on Media, Development and Poverty Eradication. It will be held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Hall, Colombo from May 1 to 3. The conference will also mark the World Press Freedom day which falls on May 3. United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), with the cooperation of Working Journalists' Association, Editors Guild, Sri Lanka Press Institute, Free Media Movement, Foreign Correspondents' Association, Tamil Journalist Forum and Muslim Journalist Association have organised the conference. President Mahinda Rajapaksa has been invited as the Chief Guest for World Press Freedom day celebration of the conference (May 3). Secretary of the Mass Media and Information Ministry W. B. Ganegala, told a media briefing organised in this connection at the Government Information Department last week that the government and the ministry have extended its fullest support to the conference. Representatives of above mentioned media organizations and UNESCO Communication and Information Sector Programme Specialist, Sylvie Coudray also addressed the briefing. Nearly 120 local journalists and 70 foreign media personnel will take part in the conference. UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize will be awarded on the
