Hameedias' propels Envoy brand sponsoring golf tourney

by Lal Gunesekera

Hameedia are coinciding the first anniversary of their Envoy brand collection going international with the May Monthly Medal of the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) at the Ridgeways on May 6 from 6.15 a.m. by sponsoring the event.

The tournament will be conducted in six categories - 'A' division (Handicap scratch to 9), 'B' division (Handicap 10 to 18), division 'C' (Handicap 19 to 28), Seniors, Masters and national pool players. The General Manager of the RCGC, Chula de Silva, said that they expected about 220 entries and there are additional prizes for a hit on the Envoy flag (or nearest), six hidden holes and hole-in-one too.

The Managing Director of Hameedia, Fouzul Hameed, said that it was almost one year since the Envoy brand went international and Hameedia decided to sponsor this tournament to coincide with it, though Envoy was brought into the market two years ago.

He said that about 10 overseas clients and buyers from the Indian, UK, Bangladeshi and Australian franchise of Hameedia, will also compete at the event. Hameed further disclosed that the awards ceremony will include live music and entertainment with a fashion show too thrown in at the RCGC for about 500 guests with awards for Mr. Smart, Mr. Personality, Mr. Adidas and Mr. Power dresser.

He went on to state that Hameedia was the first local clothes company to go international and was proud to take Sri Lanka brands to other countries with success. Hameedia has 14 branches in Sri Lanka and two overseas (India and UK).

Hameed said that their collection is designed to suit Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter - it's a very tough exercise.

He said "it's a new thing, but were learning".

Envoy, he further disclosed, will have an exclusive store in Colombo very soon and will tie-up with the biggest brands in the world. Among the others who were present were A.Mylvaganam (Captain of RCGC) and Harendra Perera (Brand Manager of Hameedia).
