Heaven hath no rage like a love turned to hate

Steve De Silva, son of Sri Lanka's ace music entertainer, Desmond De Silva was awarded Rs. 200,000 as settlement by the Colombo Fort Magistrate, N. Balalle in a case the police filed against Desmond De Silva.

Desmond De Silva was charged with assaulting Steve and causing injury in Colombo last year. Steve, earlier demanded Rs. 2.5 million as damages from the father for causing grievous injury to him. Counsel for Desmond De Silva, Attorney-at-Law, Suren Peiris moved that his client was presently employed in the United Kingdom and sought leave from court from being excused on the 2nd June.

The magistrate upheld the submission of Counsel Peiris and later the prosecution and the defence agreed to compound the case. Court awarded Rs. 200,000 as settlement to Steve De Silva. In delivering the determination, the Magistrate noted that the complainant, Steve De Silva has no further claim against Desmond De Silva in any manner whatsoever as the matter was compounded.

The Magistrate then acquitted and discharged Desmond De Silva. Attorney-at-Law, Buddhika Jayasinghe appeared for Steve De Silva while the Fort Police assisted the prosecution. Suren Peiris, Attorney-at-Law with Mrs. Deemani Beddewela, Sarath Siriwardene and Palitha Weerasekere appeared for the accused, Desmond De Silva.
