SLT launches Metro Ethernet

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) introducing one of its latest telecommunication technologies launched the Metro Ethernet, a high bandwidth telecommunication infrastructure facility for businesses and high end business customers on Wednesday.

Loss of market share, prices and alternative technologies have placed great challenges on traditional telecommunication companies. Redundant technologies have to be replaced by new and advanced technology to meet the growing demand for effective and efficient communication services, SLT Chief Marketing Officer Kapila Chandrasena said. Today we need to move out from voice to high speed internet and video technologies which have become the customer requirement especially of the corporate sector.

Therefore, it is imperative that we fall in line with the changes and advancement of society and offer them the latest and most effective technology.

Chandrasena said Metro Ethernet introduced to support advanced data, voice, video and high speed internet services is cost effective, speedy, innovative, less complex and offers a range of services such as high speed internet and data services, also video conferencing.

It is cost effective since the technology fully uses the bandwidth and eliminated a fair number of network components.Metro Ethernet offers better services because it entails multiple services on single port which is made available in the customers premises to connect with other remote locations, he said.

SLT Metro Ethernet brings the network provider edge to the doorstep of the customer to deliver cost effective and reliable services through the latest technology, Chandrasena said.
