CH Triumph 34-20

CH&FC defeated Army by 34 points (Three goals, two tries and a penalty) to 20 (two goals and two penalties) in the Caltex league rugby match at Maitland Crescent yesterday.

CH&FC opened scoring off a try scored by prop Jayantha Ranaweera, then centre Batheesha de Silva extended CH &FC lead with another unconverted try. Army bridged the gap with two penalties put over by Kapila Knowlton to make the scores 10\6 in favour of the Maitland Crescent club. Saliya Kumara pierced through the army defence to touch down and did the conversion himself. Minutes before the breather Zakir Badurdeen scored a try and Saliya Kumara added the extra points. At half time the winners led 27\6.

On resumption Kapila Knowlton crashed through the 'CH' defence to score under the post and put over the conversion. Centre Asanka Perera scored the last try for army which Knowlton did not make a mistake in giving them the extra points.
