Celltel completes 100 towers

Celltel who have embarked on a major expansion drive has completed 100 in its project to reach 750 towers in 2006.

Celltel's CEO, Duminda Ratnayaka said "in this Phase VI and Phase VII of our expansion program we are adding 500 new towers in 10 months between March and December 2006 which will result in a three-fold increase in GSM coverage, resulting in good quality connectivity islandwide, and the 100 towers completed todate are proof of our commitment to our customers to provide them with an islandwide coverage".

Ratnayaka said that they were committed to give one of the best coverage footprints in Sri Lanka. He also said this would include a new layer of 1800 MHz (dual band network) in Colombo and in key outstation towns to add capacity and connectivity to a growing subscriber base.

Some of the 100 towers which have been completed are in Angunukolapalsessa, Hungama, Kamburugamuwa, Malinboda, Middeniya, Pitabeddara, Saliyapura, Thirippane and we are very happy to see the customer response to CellCARD connections in these areas.

Commercial Director Celltel, Aniljit Singh said, "Customers seeking the best value connection will now be able to contact family and friends all over the island, at any time, on our popular prepay Brand CellCARD, with Celltel expanding its sales and distribution, to make it available in new areas as well".
