Gem merchant's body found in river

The body of millionaire gem merchant who disappeared from his house on June 28 was found dumped in a river at Welipanne area.

The suspect was arrested following his surrender to the police and produced before the Kalutara Magistrate who later remanded him till investigations are over. The victim in this case is the millionaire gem merchant Nizar Mohamed Rislan (37) of Beruwela.

The incident happened on June 28 when gem merchant Nizar Mohemed Rislan suddenly disappeared from home without a trace.

He left home early that day to Beruwela along with the suspect and three other employees. After dropping the three employees at Magalkanda in Beruwela area, Rislan had driven his car towards Welipanne along with the suspect.

The Beruwela police believe that Rislan was strangled to death by the suspect owing to a business dispute and dumped his body in a river at Welipanne.
