LTTE shells army positions
 

The security forces yesterday retaliated with shellfire LTTE positions in Kattaparichchan after the Tigers shelled army forward defence lines.

"We used heavy mortars in response to LTTE mortar attacks on our positions," said Military spokesman Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe.

He said security forces received no casualties. Casualties on the LTTE side was not known.

In another incident troops on patrol shot dead an LTTE cadre who fired at an army road clearing patrol near Parayankulam, Mannar.

In another incident, Navy on Friday night sank a suspected dinghy in the High Security Zone in the vicinity of KKS harbour. "After the LTTE the boat continued to move forward, ignoring warning by the Navy," said Brigadier Samarasinghe.
