CDCA election not properly done
By Ananda Kannangara
Colombo Municipal Commissioner Dr. Jayantha Liyanage yesterday said
that injustices and serious irregularities took place at the election of
the Colombo District Cricket Association (CDCA) held at Sinhalese Sports
Club on Saturday.
Addressing the media Dr. Liyanage alleged that the voting rights of
seven CMC members were deprived by some elements in a fraudulent manner
by forging his signature.
He said he and the CMC Sports Director had the sole authority to sign
the nomination forms. "I feel that this irregularity had been wilfully
plotted by either an interested individual or a group to discredit and
tarnish the image of the CMC," he said.
"However when seven CMC club members arrived at the polling booth
with the nomination forms signed by me and the CMC Sports Director they
were not permitted to cast their votes saying that seven other
representatives from the CMC had already come to exercise their voting
rights," he said.
"However I have already complained about this matter to the Cinnamon
Garden Police and will make another complaint to the Human Rights
Commission as well as the Fraud Bureau,' he said.
Dr. Liyanage further said that he would take legal action against
persons involved in this unfair incident in order to cancel the results
and also to go for a fresh election to be conducted in a fair manner. |
