Lankan future leaders shine at Presidential Classroom
Each year, Presidential Classroom USA, brings together over 500
student leaders 16 to 19 years from 45 countries to the Future World
Leaders Summit in the American capital Washington. D.C. to explore
international relations, diplomacy and world economy.
Presidential Classroom is the oldest civic education organisation in
North America, founded in 1968 in the tradition of President John. F.
Kennedy, who challenged the young Americans to be committed to public
service.
This year Sri Lanka was the largest foreign delegation with 61
aspiring student leaders from 14 local schools. The Lankan delegates as
their Head of State elected Bernadine Jayasundera a senior prefect of
Asian International School and Haresh Selvaskandan of Colombo
International School as the deputy.
Applications for 2007 summit are available free of charge from heads
of participating schools or from Presidential Classroom, South Asia
Office at 140, Stanley Tilekeratne Mawatha, Nugegoda, Sri Lanka or Email
[email protected].
The selections are made on the recommendation of the school heads and
the delegates must be sponsored by their parents. Participation at this
summit gives the Sri Lankan delegates an advantage to gain admissions to
American Universities on scholarships.
