Gampaha District overall champs

Gampaha District athletes carried away major honours, winning the overall championships with 452 points at the two-day Sri Lanka Masters Open Athletic Championships concluded at the Sugathadasa Stadium last Sunday.

They were awarded the P. H. Amaradasa Waidyatilaka Memorial Trophy. Colombo District became overall runners-up with 394 points.

Somsanga Boonnok of Thailand was the best athlete, setting four meet record in the women's 50 age group.

The other awards winners were: Best Performance Track - Men: M. Mayuriathilaka (Colombo). Best Performance Track - Women: Somsanga Boonnok (Thailand). Best Performance Field Men: J. C. Fernandopulle (Gampaha) Best Performance Field Women: Somsanga Boonnok (Thailand). Champion District Men - Gampaha, Champion District Women: Colombo.

Athletes from Thailand, Sri Lanka and India participated at the meet and 35 new meet records were established. L.F.
