Politics Unpacked

Makeover Prof.,

A certain UNP Professori (who else one might ask...) is now sporting a new look. Known for his almost dour lecture type delivery of speeches etc, it would have hardly been expected that Professori would go for the makeover. But so he has done. We can say that the new look is in the detail — and say nothing more. Do visualise the rest.

The other Prof.,

When a certain other Professori of the medical bent delivered an oration for a dear and departed leftist of a different era, he said “what federalism with that Supremo around?” Or at least words to that effect, though delivered with more finesse and sophistication...... Somebody being roguish went up to him and said “now, we are not sure you’d be around to tell the tale after this.” No need to get nervous at all —- things are not that bad or rotten in this state of Sri Lanka, are they?

A kidnap story

It’s not the most attractive kind of speculation — but yet, people are speculating as to whether the latest scribe-kidnap in which the scribe was released was authentic, or staged? Most probably it was authentic, in which case it will be ghoulish to suggest to the victim that it might have been staged. But what led to this kind of idle speculation? Probably the fact that the people are used to a surfeit of sideshows and theatre now. For example, we all remember the famous Daya Master fiasco. The man was sent here with a sick-report, and the doctors said he is in the pink of health. Well, almost. With that kind of show being put on, is anybody sure that there is ‘credibility’ in any of this?

Masters of the game

Talking of Daya Master, its now well known that there was a doctor of some notoriety in attendance for hours when Daya Master spent some time at his Apollo ward. This was a doc of the political persuasion — green — and known for breakages he often causes in Chinashops with his extraordinary finesse..... The President had a conversation with a man from a rag from the other side of the divide. One thing led to another, and the conversation veered towards Daya Master. Said the President: “This doc was supposed to be looking into Daya Master’s medical needs. If he wanted medical treatment from this guy, Daya Master should have been treated — but in the head....” No response, from one deflated Ed.

The taming of Tigers

What’s happening to the Tamil war? Maybe it’s no laughing matter, but somebody laughed anyway about the only Sinhala propagandist for Elam — a man who emigrated early in life but who sports a name as Sinhala as can be — and who died recently. A sad portend if you really lost your only early convert from the other side??

Look at him

What’s Vaiko’s trick to get his Sri Lanka bashing vitriol into the heads of the Indian establishment. Somebody said, he is trying to look as pleasing as President Rajapaksa. Well, it cannot possibly be denied, maybe. At least from a reasonable distance, the man is now sporting a fair resemblance.....
