INGO expatriates to be issued work permits

Expatriates attached to Non Governmental Organisations and International Non-Governmental Organisations are to be issued with work permits in due course. The ministry is in the process of issuing such work permits, states a press release issued by the Ministry of Defence, Public Security Law and Order.

It further states that there is no need for NGO’s and INGO’s to register with the Ministry of Defence as the authority for such registration is vested with the Ministry of Social Services. It is also not necessary for such NGO’s and INGO’s to register their vehicles. The Defence Ministry is involved only in issuing work permits to expatriates working with NGO’s and INGO’s as a security measure.

Expatriates attached to UN Agencies and other diplomatic agencies and donor agencies like JAICA, USAID, GTZ and the BOI approved commercial ventures also do not require to obtain work permits from the Ministry, the press release added.

Although work permits are issued to work in a certain area it does not prohibit holders of such permits to travel to any other part of the country except North and East for any other purpose.

The press release has been issued to clear the misconception created in the media, it states.
