Military spokesman refutes allegations

Military spokesman Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe yesterday rebuffed allegations of abductions of media personnel by the security forces and said a “sinister” plan was under way to discredit the security forces.

“Security forces are not involved in abductions of media personnel, but we could see a sinister strategy by certain people to discredit the forces,” said the military spokesman.

“It looks like these abductions and sudden releases are staged to discredit the security forces,” he added.

Military spokesman’s remarks came after two media personnel were abducted and later released by the unidentified groups in two separate incidents during this week.
