Playtime with your pet
You may have seen, in movies and television, children having great
fun, running around with their small pets. While racing a tiny kitten or
rabbit certainly seems rather cute on the screen, this may prove to be a
deadly exercise for your darling pet. So, while seeing such scenes may
entice children as well as adults to run races with their pets, this is
not good for the safety of your pet and should not be encouraged.
Of course, all you children enjoy running around in your garden
during your free time. Also, playing with your pet may be one of the
greatest pleasures you enjoy.
But, since you really do care about your pet, especially if it's a
small animal, you should never run races with it. Kittens, puppies and
even adult dogs belonging to toy breeds, rabbits, terrapins, guinea pigs
and hamsters may not be able to get out of your way fast enough; or they
may be rather wobbly in motion and unpredictable in the path they take.
If you have a fall while playing, or if someone else falls on top of
you, you may feel pain and maybe get a bruise, but you'll still be able
to stand up. However, if this happens to your pet, that is, if you fall
over or step on your pet, it may never get up or move!
So, if you do want to play with your pet, be very careful. Do not
chase it, and ensure that you can see it at all times. This will prevent
you from trampling on it by accident. However, if you think this is not
enough, that you want more rough-and-tumble play with your pet, the only
solution would be to get a large-sized adult animal. |
