Achinthi does Lanka proud
Achinthi Vithanage has brought fame to Sri Lanka by excelling in the
arenas of study, sports and arts in Australia.
At the primary stage of her studies she was hailed as Dux of School,
the highest award that can be achieved by a student in primary school
and at senior school won several Principal's Awards for outstanding
academic achievement.
Further, she has been awarded with the Minster's Award for Excellence
in Student Achievement 2002. In the Australian Higher School Certificate
(HSC) examinations Achinthi received one of the highest marks by
receiving an University Admission Index of 99.5 that places her in the
top 0.5% in the state. For this achievement she was also awarded the
'Premier's Award for Excellence' given to students who achieved the
highest results in the HSC.
Being of service oriented spirit, Achinthi was appointed as the
Secretary of Sinhalese Cultural Forum (SCF) Tharuna Youth Group, the
largest cultural youth organization in Australia and participated in
numerous Red Cross Blood Donation programmes, charity food fairs and has
helped with tsunami fundraising in aid of her motherland, Sri Lanka.At
present Achinthi is reading a combined degree in Law and International
Studies at University of New South Wales, Australia, a prestigious and
internationally recognised university.
She is the daughter of Rohan Vithanage and Mrs. Viveka Vithanage and
granddaughter of Mrs. Dulcie Wickramarachchi (Visaka Vidyalaya) and late
Mr. D. S. Wickramarachchi (Education Department).
