NIIT BSc Degree program in computer science launched

NIIT Ltd., a global IT training company with the Open University of UK launched its BSc Degree program in computer science in Colombo on Tuesday.

The IT training institute in Sri Lanka has structured the program to meet the requirements of the modern and advancing global trends in the industry.

The three-year degree course on computing and practising is designed to provide hands on experience to beginners of IT. The IT qualification will steer the path for students to enter the IT world with confidence and competency.

Students who obtained a formal IT qualification have realised the need for an advanced and career oriented program. The BSc degree course will help students to obtain an international qualification at reasonable costs, Managing Director NIIT, Sunimal Weerasuriya said.

With the world rapidly becoming IT oriented the society cannot be content with the traditional educational system which is totally academic and not job oriented. It is vital that professional organisations train and enhance skills of the younger generation.

NIIT has over 4,000 diploma holders who have excelled in the IT sector contributing immensely to its growth, Weerasuriya said.

There is a global demand for innovative and skilled IT personnel with practical know-how to be solution providers.

A comprehensive training program of this nature will not only offer students knowledge but also the practical skills to deliver solutions, said Vice President NIIT, K. Bhagavatheeswaran.

The degree in computer science includes an integrated learning solution on strategy and design to development, implementation and adminstration.

NIIT assures quality and standard education with local IT professionals trained by the Open University of UK to guide students, Bhagavatheeswaran said.

NIIT set up in India in 1981 is recognised for innovations in IT education and offering solutions. Today it is spread in over 30 countries delivering IT training programs in 2,888 centres.

The Open University of UK set up in 1969, one of the leading distance teaching universities is recognised for quality teaching and ranked as one of the best in UK.
