A rare Math exhibition

A large number of school children from Colombo and out stations were
able to witness a rare and a unique exhibition on Mathematics, organised
by the Maths Society of Royal College, Colombo.

The exhibition `Math-Ex 2006' was held at the college premises
recently. It gave an opportunity to both children of Royal College as
well as several other schools in Colombo and the outstations to
participate.
The objective of the exhibition was to educate school children on the
theories and practicals of Mathematics.
The Dean of the faculty of Mathematics Prof. Nalin de Silva was the
chief guest on the opening day, commended the young Royalists for their
endeavour and said that Mathematics was one of the most important
subjects.

He said, exhibitions give school children the opportunity to expose
their skills while obtaining experience in the field of Mathematics.
"Conducting exhibitions, children also can share their knowledge with
other students" Prof. Silva said.
The Principal of Royal College, Upali Gunasekara thanked the students
for conducting the exhibition for the second time and said that
exhibitions of this nature will help to make Mathematics easy and
interesting for children.

The Deputy Principal P. Upashantha thanked the Principal for the
encouragements extended to hold such an exhibition and said that next
Mathematics exhibition will be conducted in a different manner.
The Subject Co-odinator of Mathematics in Royal College, Mrs.
Wasantha Wijesuriya thanked the lecturers of the Colombo University
Mathematics Department for giving the necessary information to students
to make the exhibition a success.
Middle school Principal Mrs. S. N. Amarasekara thanked the school
media unit for their painstaking effort to give media coverage to the
exhibition. |
