Food for season in Jaffna

There is no shortage of essential food stuff fuel in Jaffna Peninsula
and essential goods are freely available in the Penisula for New year
festive season, Minister Douglas Devananda told the "Sunday Observer."
The Ministry of Social Service and Social welfare in collaboration
with the Cooperative Wholesale Establishment CWE has sent these items by
sea to Jaffna Penisula before Christmas festival, he added.
During past two weeks government has sent over 12000 MT rice, 4515 MT
of sauger, 1648 MT of milk food, 2000 MT flour to Jaffna. These food
stuff have distributed among the Cooperative Societies in the Jaffna
Penisula. In addition to this 290,000 litres of petrol, 1,221,300 litres
of diesel, l,562,800 kerosine oil have stored in the storage tanks in
Jaffna,he added.
Apart from this 134 lorries of essential items such as rice, dhal,
dried fish, spices, medicine, fuel, cloths, building material and
vehicle spare parts had also been sent to uncleared areas of Kilinochchi
and Mullaitivu district via Omanthai and Uyilankulam last week, he said. |
