Sanjeewa, Sandali win Novices titles

SQUASH: Sanjeewa Wijesekera and Sandali Gomes won the men's and women's novices singles titles at the Squash National Championships played at the CCC indoor courts at Maitland Crescent yesterday.

Wijesekera defeated Hemantha Hulangamuwa in the finals by 3 sets to 2 the scores being 9-4, 10-9, 9-4, 9-0, 9-6. It was a creditable feat for Wijesekera who was down the first two sets and fought back gamely to win the other three sets. Sandali Gomes defeated Ruwangi Wijekulasuriya in straight sets to win the womens novices title 9-7, 9-2, 9-4.

Men's Plate finals was won by Nilruk Soyza defeating Kyle Conrad 9-6, 6-9, 9-2 and 9-1.I. M. Ramzi beat Pathma Kumar to take the over 45 mens title in straight sets 9-4, 9-0, 9-0. At the time of going to press the womens and mens singles finals were being played.

In the women's final Tehani Guruge was clashing with Nirasha Guruge, while in the men's singles final Navin Samarasinghe was playing with Saman Tilakaratne. (L.F.)
