CRC oarsmen runners-up again
ROWING: Colombo Rowing Club oarsmen did extremely well to
become overall runner-up with 28 points to Madras Boat Club 30 points at
the three -day Amateur Rowing Association East (ARAE) Regatta held at
the Karachi Boat Club waters in Pakistan.
Madras Boat Club Oarsmen who rowed with authority retained the
Hooghly Trophy. For Madras Boat Club it was two wins in a row as they
became champions at last year's ARAE Regatta held in Calcutta. This is
the second occasion CRC crew became runner-up to Madras Boat Club. In
the Double Sculls and Coxless pair events, Colombo Rowing Club came in
second position, while in the Sculls and Coxless Four, CRC crew were
placed third.
Udesh Hettiarachchi and Manoharan Niroshan won the second place in
the Double Sculls. Karachi Boat Club pair won the event. Deveka
Senaviratne and Anushan Selvaraja finished runner-up in the Coxless pair
with Bengal Rowing Club pair winning the event.
Bassim Hassan took the third place in the Single Scull. Madras Boat
Club sculler won the event with Calcutta Boat Club rower in second
place.
In the main event of the Regatta Coxless Four (Boat Race) the Colombo
Rowing Club crew composed of Udesh Hettiarachchi (bow), Manoharan
Niroshan (2), Anushan Selvaraja (3) and Devaka Senaviratne (stroke) were
placed third. Madras Boat Club won the main event while Karachi Boat
Club placed second.
According to Chevantha Sirimanna, coach/manager of CRC crew, the 2007
ARAE Regatta will be held in Colombo. |
