Police, Air Force emerge champions
SWIMMING: Swimmers from Police and Air Force proved their
class to emerge overall men's and women's champions respectively at the
Masters short course swimming championships 2006 conducted by the
Interim committee of SLASU held at D. S. Senanayake College swimming
pool.
Police amassed highest aggregate points of 835 to take the top spot
in the men's championship followed by Air Force in second place with 328
points, Fishtail Aquatic Club, Mutwal third with 293 points, Sri Lanka
Army fourth with 215 points and Otter Aquatic Club fifth with 111
points. In the women's overall Air Force came on top with 203 points
SriLankan airlines second with 80 points, Army third with 61 points,
Police fourth with 58 points and Puttalam district swimming Association
fifth with 50 points.
The Best Swimmers (Men) in their respective age categories were:
25-29 years - B. P. T. M. Pathirana (Air Force, 30-34, M. L. S. Lasantha
(Police) 35-39 - joint champions - M. A. Jayantha (Fishtail AC) and R.
K. S. M. S. Kumara (SriLankan Airlines), 40-44 - R. W. N. Wasantha
Bandara (Police), 45-49 - S. K. Pathmasiri (Dolphin AC), 50-54 - G. D.
Silva (Police), 55-59 - D. J. Rodney Silva (Fishtail AC), 60-64 - P. L.
Umagiliya (Otter AC), 65-69 - D. R. Athukorala (Kinross Swimming and
Life Saving club), 70 years and above - Piyasena Labutale (Fishtail AC).
The Best Swimmers (Women) - 25-29 years - W. A. W. R. Weerasinghe
(Air Force), 30-34 - J. A. D. R. I. Jayakody (Air Force), 35-39 - G. H.
