Duty free allowance for Lankan expatriate workers increased

Sri Lankan expatriate workers who stay abroad for more than a year will be entitled to a duty free allowance of $ 5000 on goods upon their return.

According to Government sources, the Government has planned to increase the current duty free allowance from $ 1,750 to $ 5,000 for these workers.

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment said private foreign remittances to Sri Lanka increased by 30% in 2006.
