CRICKET: University of Ruhuna beat University of Colombo by 27 runs in the Metatechno Challenge Trophy six-a-side Inter-University cricket tournament at the Colombo University grounds, Thurstan Road. Ruhuna University: 85 for 2 wkts in 5 overs (K. K. Punchihewa 50 not out, P. A. S. R. Wijesundara 18; Rajive Nirmalasigham 1 for 18, Asela de Silva 1 for 17).

Winners receive Metatechno trophy and Rs. 7,500 cash and certificates to team. Colombo University: 58 for 4 wkts in 5 overs (Rajive Nirmalasingham 33, O. U. A. Pathiratna 2 for 6) Runners-up receive Metatechno Lanka Trophy and Rs. 5,000 cash and certificates.

In the play-off for third position, University of Moratuwa beat University of Kelaniya by 36 runs.University of Moratuwa: 65 for 2 wkts in 5 overs (Sudusinghe 14, Singhawansa 11; R. Kulathunga 1 for 20 (extras 27)). University of Moratuwa get Rs. 2,000 cash with certificates. University of Kelaniya: 29 all out in 4 overs (A. Jayalath 13 not out, Banuka de Silva 3 for 2, Balasuriya 1 for 8).
