Chairperson, Child Protection Authority Padama Wetthewe told the
Sunday Observer that a special unit will be set up to probe cases of
child abuse, robberies and rape cases. She said that already 5,000
children have been displaced due to natural causes. "Under the
authority, we do care for them together with the Department of Probation
and Child Care. We also take legal action when necessary," she said.
The student education program inviting the public to be participants
to create an awareness on child abuse, rape and other inhuman acts
against minors will be launched by the Child Protection Authority.
This program will be implemented at district level and will be the
main focus of the authority. The Chairperson said they were ready to
take legal action regarding any case. "Under this programme, we are
hoping to check Private Internet Cafes which mislead children and take
necessary action, she stressed.
If we found anyone guilty we are planning to take he or she under the
custody immediately.
Further she said, this programme will be implemented before March
this year.
