Probe into elephant polo episode

The Galle police have launched an investigation into the incident where an elephant went berserk and smashed up a vehicle parked near the Samanala Park and also caused injuries to two persons during the 6th annual Elephant Polo- Tournament held in Galle on Thursday.

The two who sustained injuries were admitted to hospital, who were later identified as the mahout and a foreign player riding on the back of the elephant. However, both of them escaped with minor injuries.

Spectators who were present witness the Polo match had to throw stones, to move the elephant away from the vehicle. However, with the help of other mahouts, the enraged elephant was brought under control and later tied to a tree.
