President congratulates Sri Lanka team
President Mahinda Rajapaksa congratulated the Sri Lanka cricket team
which has entered the Super Eight round of the ICC World Cup tournament
in the West Indies. Sri Lanka crushed India by 69 runs in Trinidad in
their last Group 'B' match to advance to the final round with an
unbeaten record.
President Rajapaksa commended the recent performances of the Sri
Lanka team, which has made it three in-a-row with wins over Bermuda,
Bangladesh and India.
The President has wished all success to skipper Mahela Jayawardene
and his team to do even better in the decisive Super Eight final round.
The President also paid tribute to veteran opener Sanath Jayasuriya, who
became the first Lankan centurion at the 2007 World Cup, scoring his
24th one-day international century.
The President also wished greater success to the Sri Lanka team in
their endeavour to regain the World Cup after 11 years.
