NPC interviews to promote ASPs
by Jayampathy Jayasinghe
The National Police Commission (NPC) will hold interviews soon to
promote Assistant Superintendents of Police to the rank of
Superintendent of Police shortly, a spokesman for the National Police
Commission told the "Sunday Observer" .
The NPC has already received several applications and the interviews
will be held for the selection of SPs on March 27 and 28. Confirmed ASPs
in their posts with an unblemished service record of eight years will be
eligible for promotion to the rank of Supdt. of Police grade 2. The
applicants will be selected after a viva-voce.
A competitive examination to recruit 17 Probationary Assistant
Superintendents of Police (ASPs) will be held after a lapse of seven
years. This will be the first occasion where women will be selected as
ASPs. Previously women were recruited to fill other vacancies such as
Constables and Sub Inspectors.
The NPC had received 1,100 applications for the post of Probationary
Asst. Supdt. Police. A new endurance test will be held by the Police
Department to test the suitability of candidates. A limited examination
to select ASPs will be held for police officers who are graduates or
attorneys-at-law.
Meanwhile, the NPC has called upon the IGP to transfer Inspectors and
other ranks below who had served at the Parliamentary complex at Kotte
for more than five years.
