Oh boy, what a week!
by Anushka Nanayakkara and Sajitha Prematunge
Samadhi: Mondays are excruciating. Anuki doesn't come on Mondays and
it's awfully boring.... I'm usually clueless as to what I should do for
the rest of the week. And I have to give a list of my deliverables on
Monday evening!!! It makes me nauseous just thinking about it.
I always make a resolution on Fridays that I would get my thoughts
straight by Mondays so I'd be able to meet the Thursday dead line
without rushing it. But it never happens. Plus I have to admit it, I'm
always a little lazy on Mondays.
I usually run all over the place answering all the phones - because
it's every body elses day off, I check my mail - personal mail of
course, since I don't receive any professional mail to speak of - I
simply doze off. Saved by the bell! My boss just gave me an assignment
and saved me the trouble of brainstorming.
Tuesday - it's meeting day! Anuki looks like she just fell from the
sky. Luckily I'm one day ahead of her, I had the whole of Monday to
contemplate and reflect. The meeting is where you're bound by your own
words to your own damnation.
The assignments are confirmed by the boss. The whole thing is a
jittery proceeding if you ask me!, subject to much nail biting. Time for
a last minute change of heart about my assignment? Uuh, too late the
meetings over.
Anuki: Wednesday, here comes the assignment day again... Believe it
or not from the time we jump out of bed, our mission is to complete the
assignments and to start writing coz we want to keep the deadline.
Well, on the other hand it is an exciting day as well coz we get to
meet and associate many people with different social back grounds. But
all the time the brain alarm reminds us that time is not just running
but flying; it adds more weight to the days work.
Samadhi: Oh, Anuki you goody-too-shoes you're too professional,
interesting people indeed! Do you at all remember what comes next.
Thursday, dooms day! I'm never gonna make the dead line! It is my
superior just around the corner, coming to grab the paper right out of
my hands. I can almost hear the deathly echo 'Time out!'. Oh gosh I'm so
paranoid.
My mean old demon in the subconscious whispers in my ear 'can't we
stall?' 'I doubt it' I snap back. Two seconds to the moment of truth and
counting. Can I make it?
Finally one tenth of a second to deadline 'I've finished!' I turn to
see Anuki shaking her head in disapproval. "I've been finished for over
an hour". How could that be I always get a head start on Mondays.
Anuki: Thank god, for all the good Fridays. The
laugh-and-get-fatter-day. After handing over the write ups, this day
gives us more relaxation. The tension is all gone, and leaves more space
for good habits like "laughing". Samadhi and I share our experiences of
the week, challenges encountered or pick something funny and laugh until
we are in tears.
Before the end of the day not forgetting, we do discuss our
assignments for next week. Generally, on and off we do consult our
superiors (though at times we would have been a pain behind) that's with
the belief that they know their stuff and with the interest to learn
more.
I think practice not only makes a person perfect what's necessary is
to jump off the deep end and try not to drown. To do that, accepting our
superiors assistance is what's needed. After all Friday is our fun day
and that's why we always call it a "good Friday".
Samadhi: Oh go ahead butter up Anuki!
Anuki: Saturday is a both sunny and gloomy day for me. I'll tell you
why, Its bright because, I get to work on my news articles and its
actually kind of exciting and challenging (thanks to my boss for pushing
me the first place to this "muddy" area but with pair of "colourless"
boots.
Anyhow, Saturday is kind of spicy for me and also the feeling of
having the day off at the door step adds more spice to life. The cloudy
side of the day is that its Samadhi's off on Saturday day.
A day where nature shows me the value of friendship. (Glad that she's
not around to tell me about the dangers of having cool drinks or annoy
me with all her environmental tales). When turning back the clock, the
days were sweet, bitter, spicy for the two of us and all that we could
say is Oh! boy what a week...
