New Consulate General office in Frankfurt
The new consulate General Office in Frankfurt was inaugurated on
Friday by Minister of Foreign Affairs Rohitha Bogollagama. Minister for
Federal and European Affairs of State of Hesse, Volker Hoff, Chairman of
the City Parliament of Frankfurt, Buhrmann, Deputy Police Chief of
Frankfurt, and a host of other German and Sri Lankan dignitaries
attended the ceremony.
Buddhist religious observances were conducted by Ven. Rathmale
Punnarathana Thera, while Hindu, Christian and Muslim observances were
conducted by Rev. Murallidharan, Rev. Father Bernard Ehlen and Rev.
Sabeji Davari.
Minister Bogollagama said the rationale for shifting the Consulate
from Bonn to Frankfurt was to promote Sri Lanka's interests more
aggressively including investment, trade, tourism and also to service
the expatriate community in the Hesse area.
Frankfurt as the economic hub of Europe's largest economy is also
home to one of the continental Europe's busiest airports. SriLankan
Airlines operates four flights a week from Frankfurt to Colombo and is
exploring the possibility of having daily flights.
