Kingswood rout Rajans 45/0

RUGBY: St. Anthony's, St. Peter's, Isipatana and Kingswood entered the cup semi-finals of the Schools Segment of Singer SriLankan Airlines Rugby Sevens played at the Nittawela Stadium in Kandy yesterday.

The semi-final line up for today is: 1.40 p.m. St. Anthony's College vs Kingswood College. 2 p.m. St. Peter's College vs Isipatana College.

The highlight of yesterday's matches was Kingswood College drubbing their home town rivals Dharmaraja College by the huge margin of 45 points (5 goals, 2 tries) to nil after leading 31-0 at the breather.

For the Kingswoodians Hashim Amith (2), Gayan Weeraratne (2), Chula Susantha (1), Chaminda Bandara (1), Gayan Rathnage (1) scored tries with Roshan Weeraratne adding the extra points to five of them.

Rajans gave a pathetic display especially in the first half allowing their rivals to tot up 31 points to put themselves at a point of "no return".

St. Anthony's College, one of the favourites thrashed the previous day's giant killers St. Joseph's College by 42 points (6 goals) to nil. At half time the Antonians led 24-0.

Fly half Roshan Wijesiri scored 3 tries while Chanaka Gunaratne (1), Kusal Rankothge (1), Imad Reyal (1) scored the other tries. Imad Reyal also goalled all six tries which were mostly in front of the post.

In the third semi final St. Peter's College beat Ananda College by 31 points (3 goals, 2 tries) to 12 (1 goal, 1 try). At half time Peterites led 21-0.

Chanaka Gunasekera (2), Poornaka Delpachithra (2) and Ranuka Jayasinghe (1) scored for the Peterites. Ifath Meedin goalled three of the tries. For the Anandians Akila Nipuna and Ishan Samitha scored a try each with the latter adding the extra points to one of the tries.

In the last cup quarter final Isipatana College beat S. Thomas College, Mt. Lavinia by the comfortable margin of 26 points (3 goals, 1 try) to 5 (1 try) after leading 14-0 at lemons.

For Isipatana College Srinath Suriyabandara and Dinusha Chathuranga scored two tries apiece. Niroshan Chathuranga added the extra points to 2 tries while the other was goalled by Reza Mubarak.

For the Thomians prop Johann Fernando scored an unconverted try.

Plate Championships: St. Joseph's, Dharmaraja, Ananda and S. Thomas' will now battle it out for the Plate Championship in the semi finals this morning.

11.00 a.m. - St. Joseph's will meet Dharmaraja.

11.20 a.m. - Ananda will take on S. Thomas'.

Bowl Championship: Vidyartha College and Wesley College will meet in the Bowl finals to be played at 1.20 p.m. today.

In the semi finals Vidyartha beat St. Sylvester's 24-19 and Wesley beat Zahira 14-7 after extra time.
