UK Tamils Peace Consortium for political solution

LTTE violence denounced

A British Parliamentarian on Sri Lankan Affairs Alon Lov along with members of the Tamils Peace Consortium in the United Kingdom have pledged their support to expedite the political process in finding a settlement to the ethnic crisis in Sri Lanka. They have also denounced LTTE violence.

President’s clarion call to all

President Mahinda Rajapaksa asserted that he was fervently appealing to all political parties to join the government neither through fear nor bankruptcy, but with commitment and the sheer desire of developing and uplifting our motherland considering it his bounden duty. President Rajapaksa made this assertion when he addressed a large gathering at the "Wellassa Udanaya" (Renaissance of Wellassa) Jana Hamuwa yesterday at the Pelwatte Sugar Factory playground in Wellassa.

SLMM warned over Icelander's Wanni visit

The Government has warned the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) over the unauthorised 'transportation' of Iceland's Foreign Ministry official for a meeting with the LTTE in the Wanni. The Government reiterated that the truce monitors could be sent back for violating diplomatic regulations.

Sharp drop in bread consumption following price hike

International food prices to remain high:

Bread consumption has dropped sharply following the increase in wheat flour prices, market sources said. The drop in demand is clearly seen in rural areas and traders and bakery owners said that the sale of bread has declined by nearly 50%.
