Ten shops gutted in Kamburupitiya fire: No casualties

A fire broke out at Kamburupitiya in Matara around noon yesterday, causing heavy damages to ten shops, a filling station and a gasoline bowser, the Police stated.

"This was brought under control by around 3.00 p.m. and luckily no casualties were reported," Police Spokesman Senior, DIG Jayantha Wickramaratne said. The bowser, a filling station and ten shops in front of the filling station were burnt out.

The blaze was brought under control by the Matara Fire Brigade and the Air Force personnel of the Koggala Air Force base, DIG Wickramaratne added.

Police suspect a power short circuit as the cause, quite close to the bowser, which was pumping in fuel to the tanks of the filling station.
