President Mahinda Rajapaksa was the chief guest at the passing out ceremony of a batch of officers of the Brittania Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, in which his second son Yoshitha was a cadet. Contrary to the leaders of the past who lured the children of ordinary citizens to join the Security Forces, President Rajapaksa has encouraged his own son to serve in the Sri Lanka Navy.

Multi faceted support from Japan

The Japanese Government has promised its maximum support to upgrade the power generation in Sri Lanka, Secretary to the Power and Energy Ministry said at a press briefing on Friday.

The government obtained a comfortable majority of 114 votes in favour of the Budget by defeating a concerted effort by the UNP led opposition to defeat the budget to destabilise the government and its efforts to liberate the people in the North from the clutches of the LTTE, the PA General Secretary D.
