Patriotic forces thwart sinister move
by Anura Maitipe
The government obtained a comfortable majority of 114 votes in favour
of the Budget by defeating a concerted effort by the UNP led opposition
to defeat the budget to destabilise the government and its efforts to
liberate the people in the North from the clutches of the LTTE, the PA
General Secretary D. M. Jayaratne told the 'Sunday Observer'.
Minister Jayaratne said, more than a vote on the budget it was a
struggle between traitors and patriotic forces in the House and once
again it has proved that patriotic forces will not allow traitors and
foreign conspirators to achieve their sinister political objectives.
He added, on behalf of the government I extend sincere thanks to the
JVP which stood with us at this crucial moment to thwart the effort made
by the UNP and some other parties sponsored by the LTTE with the help of
foreign conspirators to topple the government.
The LTTE is desperate as they can not face the ongoing liberation
operations by the Army in the North. In this context the LTTE decided to
spend some money on the UNP and topple the government.
That was why the LTTE offered money to the UNP through its foreign
conspirators to thwart on-going liberation operations by the armed
forces in the North.
This is a great victory for the people of this country and the
government because the aim of this budget is to give prominence to
locally produced goods by discouraging dependence on foreign products
and eliminating terrorism from the country. |
