LHI secures another Korean contract
Lanka Hydraulic Institute (LHI) embarked on yet another 3D Hydraulic
Physical Modelling proposal, this time for Kyeong Seung Design and
Consulting Incorporated (KS DCI) in Seoul, Korea. LHI is to submit a
detailed proposal on Access Road and Revetment Construction for the
Incheon Harbour, which is considered the second largest harbour in
Korea.
Dr. Raveenthiran Senior Research Engineer of LHI, said "We are to
test the wave conditions, overtopping and other changes of the Access
Road and Revetment Construction. The testing and modifications of the
project will be carried out in LHI's own state-of-the-art flume and
model basin, at the Company premises in Katubedda.'
'During the client's (KSDCI) visit to LHI, they were able to witness
our laboratory, where the testing for the project will be done, and met
with LHI's professional team who are to do the designing for the KSDCI
project. 'We are already in the process of doing the physical modelling
required for this project', said Dr. Raveenthiran.
LHI also provides visual access to their clients via the web through
means of IP cameras, installed in the laboratory.
LHI boasts of other projects completed in Korea, such as Song-Do
Beach Restoration Project in 2005 for the Handong Global University and
Busan New Port - Dredged Spoil Receivable Facility in 2006 for the Seil
Eng Co Ltd/Posco Eng & Const Co Ltd/Handong Eng & Const Co Ltd
Companies.
LHI were also the designers for the drainage in four inhabited
islands in the Maldives under the USAID project and the EI Kala New
harbour in North East Algeria which were completed recently.
According to Malith Mendis, Chief Executive/Director, LHI is in the
course of securing more design projects in Algeria and Yemen. 'In the
past 25 years, we have designed for countless clients on many projects
local and international, but we strive to treat each one of our clients
and projects with a Unique and distinctive service that sets them apart
from one another, said Mendis.
While LHI has spread its wings across the world they are also
assisting in the designing of local harbours such as the Galle and
Hambantota harbours, through means of field investigations, mathematical
and physical modelling.
LHI has in its employment, a team of expert and highly-skilled
professional engineers who are armed with training done in local and/or
overseas universities and similar institutes, specializing in designing
and testing in Coastal Engineering, Water Resources and Urban water,
which is the gist of the Company's business. |
