A record number of exhibitors and visitors at the China International Gold, Jewellery & Gem Fair - Shanghai-2007 which was held from 29th November to - 2nd December 2007, at the Shanghai Exhibition Center, propelled the event to unprecedented success with both exhibitors and buyers reporting an increase in confirmed orders during the four day fair.

The Shanghai Fair became the first choice for an international jewellery bonanza in eastern China in the second half of the year. Encouraging results were recorded at the 2006 edition of the Fair as well, with 6,401 buyers from 48 countries and regions attending, while domestic buyers came from 24 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.

The total number of visitors last year represented a 19 percent increase compared with the 2005 Fair. The 2007 edition was the largest in the Show's three year history and set records in terms of visitors, exhibitors and exhibition space. Continuing last year's success, the third edition attracted over 150 exhibitors from the USA, Italy, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan, Turkey including Sri Lanka to display their exclusive products.

A vast variety of magnificent jewellery products of excellent craftsmanship showcased at the four-day event, included glistening gold jewellery, fashionable platinum and silver jewellery, prestigious pearl, diamond, Jade and gemset jewellery, fine diamonds and fine quality gems. Packaging and display materials and related products and services were also displayed, making it a highly professional sourcing platform for the jewellery industry.

The "Sri Lanka Pavilion" at the 'China Gold Jewellery & Gem Fair 2007' was organised by the National Gem & Jewellery Authority (NGJA) for the second time. The "National Pavilion" which displayed a glittering array of gems and jewellery from Sri Lanka presented by eight members of the trade, attracted buyers from China and other leading consuming countries.

The members of the "National Pavilion" were successful in securing orders for gems and fine quality jewellery and establishing its position as the leading producer of fine quality Blue Sapphires to the global market.

In addition to "NGJA" official, two representatives of Sri Lanka Gem & Jewellery Association (SLGJA) participated in the National Pavilion, promoting 'FACETS Sri Lanka' - the Sri Lanka International Gem & Jewellery Show and important buyers to the fair accepted the invitation extended by 'SLGJA' to visit "Facets" Sri Lanka in September 2008.

The Ambassador for Sri Lanka in China Karunathilake Amunugama visited the Pavilion and inspired the participants, and congratulated 'NGJA" for continuing with the 'National Pavilion' concept. Export of Jewellery from Sri Lanka to China has recorded a four fold increase in 2006 in comparison with the corresponding figure in 2005.
