by Milton Dharmasinghe, Our Bulathsinhala special
corr.
Minister of Education Services Nirmala Kotalawala said that, for the
benefit of every student studying in government schools from grade one
to grade 12, health report books would be maintained from 2008 regarding
the health of each student.
The Minister was addressing the participants at a health camp for
young fathers at Bellapitiya Kanista Vidyalaya in Madurawala Secretariat
division last Saturday.
It was organised by Dr. Wasantha Perera, Health Officer, Madurawala
MoH Division, Anguruwatota with the assistance of Director of Health
Services Kalutara and WPPC Chairman Jagath Angage. For this ?Appachchi?
(Peethru Senehase Saviya) Program, more than 1,500 young fathers
participated.
The Minister also said, ?For the maintenance of this health record
book the Minister of Healthcare and Nutrition, Nimal Siripala de Silva
also has given his consent. This Health Record Books are maintained from
grade one class upto grade 12, all details of health of the students are
mentioned and it will continue with the progress reports of students
year by year.?
?I find that sort of health camp for young fathers is important for
them as they are the breadwinners of the family and they should all be
in good health to lead their families. Health clinics are being held for
the benefit of children, schoolchildren and mothers, but young fathers
have been neglected and not thought of.
But Minister such as Jagath Angage have drawn his attention to the
problems of young fathers and taken efforts to attend to them. It is of
paramount importance on the part of young fathers.
For this type of activities, the cooperation of employees in the
Department of Health, volunteers of social organisations in rural areas
was extended.
Mrs. Jagath Angage, WPPC chairman, S. L. D. R. Rathugama, Senior
Lecturer in Colombo Campus, Wasantha Perera, MoH, Madurawala, Janak
Chaminda, WPPC member also spoke.
