No scarcity of commodity items in Jaffna - GA
By Ananda Kannangara
The Jaffna Government Agent's office on Friday assured that the
distribution of rice, wheat flour and other essential commodity items is
being carried out without any interruption through public and private
sector outlets. Referring to several media reports on the scarcity of
essential commodity items in the district, the Jaffna Government Agent
stressed that there was no shortage whatsoever of essential food items
in the peninsula.
He said the current stocks of rice, wheat flour, sugar, dhal, milk
powder, soap, toothpaste and other laundry products were sufficient to
meet the needs of consumers in the district for at least another three
months.
"We have a bulk stock of food items and steps have also been taken to
distribute these essential commodity items even to areas outside the
Jaffna district.
Asked about the supply of petroleum products, the GA said that
although diesel, petrol, kerosene and other lubricants were freely
available, there was a slight price hike in the transport sectors. |
