Naval troops destroy LTTE hide-out in Peraru

Naval troops conducting a special search operation destroyed an LTTE hide-out in the Peraru jungles and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition last Friday.

The LTTE hide-out, six kilometres west of Nilaweli had been frequented by LTTE cadres hiding in the jungle. Around 50 LTTE cadres who fled Thoppigala are suspected to be trapped in the Peraru jungles.

The cache of arms and ammunition stored in the camps consist of two T 56 weapons, two SMG magazines, 63 rocket propelled grenades (RPGS), 64 RPG expelling charges and 6000 ammunition of 7.62mm type, packed in eight boxes, each box containing 750 rounds.
