Rewards for gallant Police officers

Brave and efficient police officers were felicitated at a ceremony held in Colombo last week presided over by IGP Victor Perera. The policemen were presented cash rewards and were commended for their dedication to police work.

IGP Victor Perera addressing a function at the Police Technical Branches in Colombo said notwithstanding the physical and mental hardships and the risks to their lives some policemen have successfully solved serious crimes committed in the past by dangerous criminals. The IGP said owing to the recovery of large hauls of ammunition and explosives the police have prevented catastrophic incidents in the country. Due to the timely action the lives of politicians and civilians have been saved.

Referring to the media he said although the media castigates policemen for various lapses, by and large many perform an enviable task to safe-guard the security and people of the country. It was the policemen's duty to collect available evidence and present them in court, he said.

Referring to the police cash rewards, the IGP said although the amount wasn't sufficient to compensate their work it was a token of appreciation for the good work done by them.
