Milan (match bag of 10/54) bowls Thomians to innings win

CRICKET: An excellent spell of left arm spin bowling by Milan
Fernando who had a match bag of (10 for 54) and a fine all-round effort
by Naveed Ghany (100 n.o and 3 for 14) fashioned a Thomian win by an
innings and 21 runs in their school cricket match against Wesley to
retain the Mahadeva Sathasivam Trophy at Campbell Park yesterday.
Wesley who were 61 for no loss overnight could not make much headway
as Milan Fernando produced a mesmerising spell of spin bowling to
restrict them for 135.
Wesley, following on with a defecit of 169 crumbled to the spin and
medium oace of Fernando and Ghany. Only a 88 run stand for the eight
wicket betwen Jason Caderamanpulle ( 32) and Dinith de Silva (50) made
worthwhile contributions. The pair broght the score from 60 for 7 to 148
for 8 when Caderamanpulle was run out. Therer after within 12 balls
Wesley lost the remaining three wickets.

Cambrians in innings win

Prince of Wales College were home for tea as they beat Richmond
College, Galle by an innings and 41 runs in their inter school under
twenty division one cricket tournament match played for the Lemonade
Trophy at Moratuwa. Incidentally this annual encounter is played for the
Major A. P. M. Peiris Trophy. Resuming on day two at the overnight score
of 35 for 8 Richmondites were all out for paltry 67 runs in reply to
homesters total of 288 for 5 declared. Chamath Kariyawasam ripped
through the batting line up of the visitors with 5 for 26. In the second
essay visitors did much better to score 180 runs with skipper Asitha
Weerasuriya playing a patient knock of 72 runs. Skipper Shashan Silva
(56), Lahiru Sri Lakmal (54) and debutant Dilan Chandima 50 were the
chief scorers for Cambrians in their first innings. Cambrian Nayana
Priyanjana has so far scored 610 runs this season.

in their inter school cricket tournament match concluded at
Bambalapitiya yesterday.

for 39, T. Silva 3 for 49, V. Perera 2 for 13).
St. Peter's: 220 for 6 decl (A. Silva 102, S. Wijeratne 41, S.

Josephian openers in 263-run stand

St. Joseph's College openers Dimuth Karunaratne 148 (24 fours 143
balls) and Ruwantha Fernandopulle 102 (11 fours, 1 six, 135 balls) made
merry to put on 263 for the first wicket in their schools Lemonade Cup
cricket tournament match against Trinity College which ended in a draw
at the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy yesterday. Trinity College dearly
missed the services of their star bowler Sachith Pathirana who is on
junior national duty with the Sri Lanka under 19 team. Their attack just
looked ordinary as the Josephians openers put on 263 in just 41-5 overs.
Karunaratne the more aggressive of the duo contributed 148 of the 263
runs stand.
Facing a deficit of 75 runs, the Trinitians ran trouble when they
lost their first five wickets at 4 p.m. with the mandatory overs due to
start at 4.30 p.m. But fresher Kithmal Wimalaweera 50 not out (6 fours,
1 five, 1 six, 77 balls) and Suresh Wickrema 23 not out (3 fours, 74
balls) batted and play without any further loss. They put on 68 in an
unbroken stand for the sixth wicket which saved the day for the
Trinitian.
Trinity College: 246 and 110 for 5 wickets 37.3 overs (W. Munasinghe

help Mahanama College, Colombo to total 248 in their Schools Lemonade
cup Cricket Tournament match against Vidyartha College which began at
Public Grounds, Kandy yesterday. The match will be continued today at
9.30 am.
