Asian Division one rugby to start on April 25

RUGBY: The Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) has requested an
one week postponement of the Asian Division I Championship from the
Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU) which was to kick off on April 19 in
Taiwan. The SLRFU have requested April 25.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the SLRFU, Dilroy Fernando, told
the Sunday Observer that the postponement was requested for two reasons.
One was the Hong Kong International 7's and March and the Sinhala-Tamil
New Year on April 12 and 13. He said that the SLRFU are awaiting a reply
from ARFU.
Sri Lanka lost the bid to host the Asian Division I in Colombo to
Taiwan and in the same Division are China and Singapore.
The first and second-round of the Caltex League Championship,
Clifford Cup Knock-Out and President's Trophy Knock-Out tournaments are
scheduled to be worked off between May and September, which will be
finalised at the Council meeting of the SLRFU next month (February).
Meanwhile, the annual general meeting of the SLRFU is scheduled to be
held on February 23 at Excel World, Darley Road. |
