Asian Division one rugby to start on April 25

RUGBY: The Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) has requested an one week postponement of the Asian Division I Championship from the Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU) which was to kick off on April 19 in Taiwan. The SLRFU have requested April 25.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the SLRFU, Dilroy Fernando, told the Sunday Observer that the postponement was requested for two reasons.

One was the Hong Kong International 7's and March and the Sinhala-Tamil New Year on April 12 and 13. He said that the SLRFU are awaiting a reply from ARFU.

Sri Lanka lost the bid to host the Asian Division I in Colombo to Taiwan and in the same Division are China and Singapore.

The first and second-round of the Caltex League Championship, Clifford Cup Knock-Out and President's Trophy Knock-Out tournaments are scheduled to be worked off between May and September, which will be finalised at the Council meeting of the SLRFU next month (February).

Meanwhile, the annual general meeting of the SLRFU is scheduled to be held on February 23 at Excel World, Darley Road.
