Rehabilitation work on Padeniya-Puttalam road under way

Rehabilitation work on 61.37km stretch on the Padeniya-Puttalam road in the North Western province on the A 10 main road is under way. An official of the Ministry of Highways and Road Development, said, "Rehabilitation work started nine months ago on the Padeniya-Puttalam road".

He said, "The road is narrow - 6.2 metres in width and we hope to complete work within one year. Sixty per cent of the rehabilitation work has been already completed. The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 1,200 million with financial assistance from the World Bank".

This road which connects Kandy to Anuradhapura and traverses through Kurunegala will reduce travel time from the capital to the North Western province and reduce vehicle operating costs, improve transport facilities for goods.
