Nadini Gunasekera receives Ladies Weightlifting Bar worth Rs. 60,000

Weightlifting: A brave effort has its rewards - so goes the famous saying.

This was the case where Nadini Gunasekera, a member of the Kandy YMCA established three Sri Lankan weightlifting records at the National Weightlifting Championships.

An old girl of Good Shepherd Convent, Kegalle, Nadini was rewarded with a Ladies Weightlifting Bar worth Rs. 60,000 by the Kandy District Sports Development Foundation for her fine efforts.In her effort to establish the records, nadini competing in the 53 k.g. weight category, she had a total 'lift' of 160 k.g....Snatch 74 kg, Clean and Jerk 86 kg.

She has been the National title holder from the year 2001 to date and has also represented Sri Lanka at the last Commonwealth Games held in Melbourne, Australia in 2006 and there she obtained 7th position in the 58 kg weight category.
