Twin fifties by Josephian Dimuth

CRICKET: Opener Dimuth Karunaratne scored twin fifties as St. Joseph's College took major honours in their annual inter school fixture against S. Thomas' College played for the Gilmore Jayasuriya Trophy at Mount Lavinia yesterday.

Karunaratne won the best batsman's award for his fine effort while Anton de Livera who hammered a splendid 162 in the Josephian first innings was named man of the match. In addition Chaturanga Perera won the best bowlers award for his five wicket haul.

St. Joseph's: 343 for 7 decl and 118 for 2 decl (D. Karunaratne 73, R. Fernandopulle 38).

S. Thomas': 264 (F. Saleem 70, R. Nilushan 52, N. Ghani 22, C. Kumara 5 for 81, G. Winston 3 for 43) and 84 for 1 (J. Tahir 42, W. Weerawardena 21 n.o.).

Royal force a draw

Royal College fought back well to force a draw to their inter school cricket tournament match against St. Peter's College concluded at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

Royal: 235 and 106 for no loss (S. Hettiarachchi 66 n.o., C. Balage 28 n.o.).

St. Peter's: 245 (S. Wijeratne 67, A. Fernando 63, S. Ranasuriya 52, C. Rajaratne 3 for 47, K. Withanage 3 for 30).

Fifteen year old Ranidu Suriyakumar hit an unbeaten century to help Wesley College force a draw to their inter school cricket tournament match against Prince of Wales College Moratuwa and worked off at Campbell Park yesterday.

Wesley: 187 and 205 for 4 (R. Suriyakumar 100 n.o, P. Samarasekera 42).

Prince of Wales: 166 (N. Priyanjana 40, L. Lakmal 27, D. Bartholumesz 5 for 57, J. Vandersay 4 for 52).

St. Benedicts College led by 64 runs on first innings in their interschool division one drawn game against St. Sebastians College, Moratuwa played at Moratuwa for the Lemonade Trophy Resuming at 30 for no loss Sebs declared at 168 for 9 with Jamitha Jayawardene unbeaten with a stubborn knock of 60 runs.

Suren Silva ripped through the batting line up of sebs with 6 for 24. Sebs batted for 93 overs and in their second essay Bens were 58 for 2 when the stumps were drawn.

St. Sebastians (Overnight 30/0) - 168 for 9 dec - Jamitha Jayawardene 60 n/o, Rajitha Mendis 27, Suren Silva 6/24.

Cambrians 'A' in innings win

Prince of Wales' College 'A', Moratuwa beat Wesley College 'A', Colombo by an innings and 45 runs in their inter-school second eleven cricket match played at Moratuwa. Cambrians taking the first lease declared at 313 for 7 with Shehan Jayasuriya 135 runs with 23 fours and three sixes and Sadeep Priyamal 124 runs with 19 fours and five sixes. Both of them were associated a second wicket partnership of 251 runs.

Visitors were shot out for paltry 53 runs with Harsha Dananjaya returning fine figures of 4 for 3 runs. In their second essay Weslytes batted cautiously but were all out for 215 runs with Denuwan Dasanayake scoring 86 runs.

Prince of Wales' 'A': 313 for 7 dec. (Shehan Jayasuriya 135, Sadeep Priyamal 124, Buddhika Janith 21, Sujith Jayamal 5/123).

Wesley 'A': 53 (Harsha Dananjaya 4/3, Buddhika Janith 2/3, Mohamed Hassim 2/16, Salmesh Saviya 2/28 and 215 (Denuwan Dasanayake 86, Chaminda Janaka 3/30, M. Hassim 3/40, S. Saviya 2/27).
