Minister opens Yapahuwa - Paradise Resort

Minister of Highways T. B. Ekanayake recently opened the Yapahuwa - Paradise Resort, an 'A' grade hotel approved by the Sri Lanka Tourist Board. The hotel complex cost nearly Rs. 100 million.

Twenty luxury rooms with balcony overlooking the lake, swimming pool, conference and banqueting facilities, Western and Eastern cuisine and many more facilities are available, said the Chairman of the hotel Werner Simon. In January 2003 the same management opened an Ayurvedic Centre, in the same premises on a 35-acre land.

Most tourists and locals who visit the Yapahuwa historical city patronise the Ayurvedic Centre which was very popular. Being a dry zone area, the management decided to construct a separate Holiday Resort with all modern facilities with cool air without disturbing the guests who seek ayurvedic medical treatment. Only vegetarian meals are served for tourists.

The new Holiday Resort is the brainchild of Managing Director of the Yapahuwa Paradise Resort I. Gunaratne, a Chartered Accountant.
