Architect 2008 exhibition

The Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) will hold the 'Architect 2008' exhibition on February 20 to mark the first annual session of the SLIA.

Architects who had contributed to the profession and excelled in the construction industry will receive awards at the event.

Architect Surath Wickramasinghe, a past president of SLIA and founder president of the Chamber of Construction Industry will be awarded a gold medal at the event.

The keynote speaker at this year's national conference will be Architect Ulrick Plesner, the Managing Partner, Plesner Architects, Israel who had been working with Architect Geoffrey Bawa in Sri Lanka.

The theme of the conference is 'Architect the Initiator'. Around 411 stalls by 260 organisations will showcase local and imported building materials.

Chairman, National Conference, Architect Jayampathy Herath said the role of the architect is not limited to designing buildings but leading the industry with new materials and components needed for the building industry. The SLIA celebrated its golden jubilee last year.
