Eight wicket win for Thomians

St. Thomas College, Mount Lavinia trounced Trinity College, Kandy by eight wickets in their inter school cricket match concluded at the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy yesterday.

Trinity College in the absence of their star allrounder Sachith Pathirana gave a very poor batting display in both innings. The inability of their frontline batsmen to remain at the wicket and build up a score contributed to their miserable display.

In the first innings their score from 106 for 5 stumped to 108 all out, losing their last five wickets for just 2 runs. In the second innings too their total fell from 103 for 5 to 103 for 8 losing 3 wickets for no runs before they were all out for 114. Losing their last five wickets for 11 runs.

For the Thomians medium pacer Ruchira de Silva took 4 for 26 and also scored 36 not out. Only half centurian in the match was T. Nugawela who scored 50 with 6 fours off 60 balls. Spinner Nilan Fernando had match figures of 6 for 22 to bring his tally for the season to 85 wickets.

Trinity College 108 and 114 all out in 48.3 overs (D. Gangoda 16, K. Wimalaweera 20, R. Jaleel 17, S. Wickrema 11, Nilshan Fernando 4 for 16, Dinesh Walpita 2 for 17, Nilan Fernando 3 for 17).

St. Thomas College 182 for 7 decl. in 56.1 overs (J. Thahir 26, A. Fernando 19, T. Nugawela 50, N. Ghany 16, R. de Silva 34 not out, D. Walpita 14 not out, Chamath Umadantha 2 for 46) and 41 for 2 wkt in 11.2 overs (F. Saleem 24 not out, R. Niroshan 12 not out).


Sri Rahula force a draw

Sri Rahula College, Katugastota batted stubbornly in the Second innings to force a draw in their schools Lemonade trophy cricket match against Kingswood College conducted at university grounds, Peradeniya yesterday.

Sri Rahula College who trailed behind in the first innings by 111 runs did well to bat on for 78 overs in their second essay to thwart a possible Kingswood victory.

Kingswood College 233 all out in 76.5 overs (P. Senaratne 22, M. Maduranga 25, Krishan Silva 18, P. Senaviratne 18, M. Bandaranayake 31, A. Kanganarachchi 17, A. Hettige 25, C. Dharmaprema 25 not out, C. Dikkumbura 3 for 40, M. Ratnayake 3 for 52).

Sri Rahula College 122 all out in 60.5 overs (S. Dissanayake 26, Rasika Udayakumara 40, N. Wanasundera 22 not out, C. Abeykoon 2 for 18, S. Atulugama 2 for 27, C. Dharmaprema 2 for 22), and 122 for 8 wickets in 78 overs (R. Ratnayake 22, S. Sameera 10, S. Dissanayake 33, R. Udayakumara 15, M. Bandara 12, N. Wanasundera 14, A. Hettige 5 for 33).


Innings win for Rajans

A good allround performance by J. Chandimal Ratnayake who scored 132 (18 fours, 1 six, 135 balls) and captured 4 for 27 helped Dharmaraja College to score an innings and 137 runs win over St. Thomas College, Matale in their inter school cricket match concluded at Police Grounds, Kandy yesterday.

Also starring for Rajans in this win was Theekshana Wedagedera who made 122 with 12 fours, 1 five off 148 balls and Medium pacer Tharindu Balasuriya 5 for 31 and off spinner R. Ekanayake who took 5 for 22.

Dharmaraja College 431 for 7 decl. in 72 overs (R. K. C. Ambagaspitiya 54, Buwaneka Ekanayake 67, R. Y. Bandara 27, Theekshana Wedagedara 121, J. Chandimal Ratnayake 132, M. de Silva 2 for 131, R. Kellepotha 2 for 87).

St. Thomas College 129 all out in 59.1 overs (T. Gunaratne 24, R. Kellepotha 20, K. Ranaweera 13, I. Wijetunga 11, M. de Silva 18 not out, N. Ekanayake 10, T. D. Balasuriya 5 for 31, T. M. Perera 3 for 22) and 165 all out in 43 overs (T. Gunaratne 58, R. Kellepotha 24, C. Jayatillake 13, I. Wijetunga 11, M. de Silva 10, R. Ekanayake 5 for 22, J. Chandimal Ratnayake 4 for 27).
