‘Unicorn’ troop carrier capsizes - two security men killed

One soldier and a sailor were killed and six other army men and two sailors were injured when an army ‘unicorn’ troop carrier capsized between Kattagamuwa and Kochchipatana in the Kataragama area around 11.35 am yesterday.

The heavy troop carrier was on its routine patrol when the mishap occurred, according to the army media centre.

The injured sailors and the army men were rushed to the Kataragama hospital. The police and army launched investigations into the incident and the preliminary inquiry revealed that it was an accident and not due to any attack, the army media centre said.

Meanwhile, a woman, her husband and a member of the civil defence force were killed in an attack carried out by the LTTE at 18-Rajangana in the Wilpattu region around 7.45 a.m. yesterday.
